Combining the complexities of classical composition and thumping beat culture, Jacob’s aural candy is the product of an intense fascination with all things sound - the creative process an expression of his long standing involvement in all facets of composition and sound manipulation. Well versed in the orthodox world of written music, as well as the compelling simplicity of dusty sampling and chopped sound excursion, Jake’s eclectic output can be seen as the mapping of the world as he sees it – a place where elemental acoustics meet monolithic machines and plasticine culture. The resulting juxtaposition seeks to capture the experience of a generation in a time of transition, and does so in a manner which is both gritty and intensely beautiful.

Through his work with live musicians as both a song writer and an accomplished clarinetist, his sound-tracking for short film, and his own personal production, Jake’s versatility is undeniable, and yet leaves a distinctive mark on anything he’s involved with. Classically trained in the late 90’s, Jake has involved himself extensively in anything musical over the past decade – his diverse experiences resulting in a well-rounded and worldly artistic vision; a vision he hopes to develop with future projects and experiences. His diverse musical background, and solid training in the technicalities of sound manipulation and production, stands him in good stead to contribute to a vast array of creative endeavours in the future.

Jake Cartwright
Guy Dowsett

Guy's wide travels and experiences have undoubtedly cultivated a unique palette of influences and sounds in his musical character. During the last 10 years he lived and worked as a musician in many parts of the world. In Prague he was resident composer and performer for Krepsko Theatre, where he also founded and fronted carnivale group Mungo Baby. He has worked as composer and musical director in circus and theatre projects in Italy, Sweden, Finland and Germany and performed in festivals all over Europe.

During his university studies at VCA and La Trobe in the late 90s, Guy was chosen to compose and work with some of Melbourne's most prestigious instrumental ensembles including Woof! Percussion and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Over the past half decade he has implemented skills as a multi-instrumentalist in work on stage as well as in the studio, building dense and unique textures of instrument, electronic oscillation and physical sound that continue to breathe with life, colour and emotion in his music and sonic panorama.

Bucket of Sound is the collaborative portfolio of composers Guy Dowsett and Jake Cartwright. The music posted on this website compiles an extensive collection of their respective solo work and showcases the music they've created together. Since 2007 the pair have combined their skills and sonic obsessions to compose and produce music for theatre, circus and film as well as suites of music for its own sake.

The mission of Bucket of Sound is to melt idea and sound. Sound is fundamental to life and creation. An organic approach engages acoustic musicianship and the sounds around us, freely integrated and empowered by the flex of electronic synthesis and plug-in manipulation.

Solid upbringings in music performance, compositional theory and practical application fuses with an ever growing fascination with audio recording and the possibilities spawned from cutting edge technology.

Commitment to active artistic and technical development means the Bucket of Sound is continuously filling up.
